Glider Rides:
You are invited to visit us at Lake Village Airport for an introductory flight in one of our FAA-certified Schweizer 2-33A sailplanes. The ride will last from 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many thermals (columns of warm rising air) we find.

All introductory flights are given by commercial glider pilots licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We operate primarily on weekends from April through November, weather permitting. To check if we will be flying on any particular day, please call us the night before to schedule a glider ride.

Please contact us to schedule an introductory flight today! Schedule one for yourself, a friend or a loved one. It will be an experience of a lifetime and they make great gifts!

Flight Instruction:
If you are seeking assistance in beginning an aviation career then learning to fly soaring gliders is an excellent way to learn the fundamentals of flight that every pilot, from ultralights to airline captains, need to know. Please click here if you would like to learn more about available scholarships.

Instruction is given by our cadre of FAA-certified flight instructors. The FAA places no age requirement on when you may begin learning to fly. An FAA-certified medical examination is also no longer required. Hours logged as flight time in a glider also count towards more advanced ratings in glider as well as other aircraft categories such as airplanes and jets.

Once you have attained your private pilot certification, you may conduct your own flights and carry passengers in the glider. The minimum FAA requirements for solo flight and private pilot licensing (pilot certification) are as follows**:

For solo glider flight

  • age 14 or older
  • instructor sign-off
  • pass a pre-solo quiz

Learn to fly and then operate the glider solo before you are even allowed to drive a car!

For FAA private pilot certificate - glider (new private pilot)

  • age 16 or older
  • 10 hours of glider flight time
  • instructor sign-off
  • pass the written FAA private pilot exam
  • pass the practical FAA oral and flight exam

For FAA private pilot certificate - glider (add-on for private pilots)

  • 3 hours of glider flight time
  • 10 solo flights
  • instructor sign-off
  • pass the practical FAA oral and flight exam
