Civil Air Patrol
The national Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Chartered by the United States Congress as a private, non-profit corporation of a benevolent character, its 56,000 members include 27,000 cadets aged 12 through 21. The CAP performs 95 percent of all inland search and rescue (SAR) missions and saves approximately 100 lives per year. It also provides aerial reconnaissence for homeland security, disaster relief and damage assessment, transport for time-sensitive medical materials, and counter-narcotics missions.

The Illinois Wing of the Civil Air Patrol bases one of its sailplanes at Lake Village, Indiana. Many members of PFSAG are also CAP members. Charges for flights by CAP members are extremely reasonable and often funds are available to underwrite orientation flights for cadet CAP members.

Membership in PFSAG does not require membership in CAP, and vice versa.
